As mentioned earlier the information listed in the section was originally compiled by my Aunt. I love her dearly. I have edited the information as I find new facts but give full credit to my Aunt for her research.

Some History

When Catherine the Great ascended the throne or Russia in 1762, she invited German farmers and artisans to move to Russia and settle the lands east and west of the Volga River. Many thousands of German families took this opportunity to leave Germany and colonize the vast farm lands of the Volga.

Amongst these families were the Parents of Johann Gottfred Brunner and Wilma Catharine Schneider. The children born to these families became Russian citizens. Life was good in Russia until the eldest males were conscripted into the Russian army in 1891. As the years passed, they brought home news of the upcoming Bolshevik Revolution and advised their parents and siblings to immigrate to Canada.

With the threat of their land being expropriated by the Bolsheviks, or sold by the State, Gottfred and Wilma told their children to move to Canada. Gottfred and Wilma Brunner stayed in Russia where they died.

Their eldest daughter, Katherine Mary Brunner, her Husband Reinhart Schick and their children immigrated to the USA in 1906. Johann Brunner, his wife Marie Pflaumer/Plum and their children immigrated to Canada in 1913.
