Heinrich and Lydia Schick

Heinrich (Henry) was the seventh child of Reinhart and Mary Schick. Lydia was the daughter of Christoph and Mary May.

Henry and Lydia were married at the Schick homestead being Henry's mother Mary's home. They lived with Mary for some time until moving to the Wittig farm which they rented. In 1925 they moved into the Town of Burstall and in 1930 they moved to a quarter-section Mary gave them.

Lydia and Henry had three children, their daughter died shortly after birth in 1927. The two sons farmed with them. In 1945 they became town-farmers when they moved their home to Burstall. Henry continued to farm with his sons until he retired.

Henry enjoyed curling after his retirement and Lydia kept busy with her sewing and gardening. In May of 1961, Lydia became ill with terminal cancer and passed away in September of the same year. Henry suffered a stroke in 1963 which left him partially paralyzed. In 1972 he moved to a nursing home in Medicine Hat and from 1979 to his death in 1982 he spent in long-term care at the hospital.
