The Hobb's help out.......

On Feb. 21 2005, I received a reply to an email I sent out regarding the Pearn's found on the http://www.paulturner.ca web site from Jim and Wonda Hobb's. Although we could not determine any relationship between the families, they did provided me with two images of USA census's.

The 1920 census shows William E. Kullgren in New York, age 35, immigrated in 1917, an alien, Clerk for Dry Goods. He and parents are listed as born in England. This is now the earliest instance of William using the Kullgren name. They also note that there were only 14 Kullgren's listed in 1920 in the US and most were Swedish. Kullgren seems to definitely be a Swedish name.

The 1930 CA census of Atascadero, San Luis Obispo, California lists William E. Kullgren, age 44, he his mother born in England, and his father born in Sweden. The year of immigration was 1918 and he was a Builder of Business Property. his wife Louis is also listed and shows they were married in 1826. John and Amy B. White are also listed and this is the first I have learned Amy's initial. It also shows that they had been married about 2 years. This means they got married in North America. Amy's mother is from England and her father was from Sweden.

With all the information I have pointing to William Pearn's being born in Sweden, I guess I will need to search it deeper. I do have the LDS disk for Sweden but it does not list any Pearn's or Collgren's. There are several Kullgren's listed but its a guessing game as to who may be related. In 1880 William was already in England and his father Charles was deceased. I have tried http://www.genline.com/ but it's not all that easy to search through without any other details on William's birth. I can only hope descendants from Sweden will find my web site in their search.
