The Change to Pearn.......
It appears for some reason the Family name changed from Collgren to Pearn between 1882 and 1884. No marriage for a William Pearn to a Matilda or Jane can be found between these years. I was about to give up searching any further and even asked the researchers in England for advice. They were also at a lose as much as I was as to where to look now. There advice was to try using the 1837online web site in search of a miss spelled name. I started thinking, we found the first marriage not by searching Pearn but searching Daw. If a second marriage took place maybe Matilda registered as a Collgren or even her maiden name Daw. I started a search from the death of William Pearn in 1884 and worked my way backwards. It didn't take long before I found a marriage for a Matilda Daw in 1883.
As of this day, 07 Feb. 2005, I am waiting for the marriage certificate to be delivered. Until I can see the content I have little to go on. We spent the weekend going over the data I have collected in the past 2 years. We located a William Pearn on a 1861 census at the age of 6. This is a very close match. I also create a list of all the Pearn's I could find in England from the 1881 census. I was surprised to see there was only 312 listings. I also created a list of Pearn's from the 1851 census to find only 71 listed. No Collgren's or Kullgren's are listed on either census.
Feb. 17 2005, I received the marriage certificate and was disappointed to see it was not our Matilda. This Matilda Daw married Thomas Jones. Email me if you are interested in obtaining a copy of this certificate.
